Lan Rioja Reserva

Advertising for the upcoming Rioja Wine and Tapas Festival in NYC in May reminds me that we have a bottle of Lan Rioja Reserva in the cellar. Of the three major Spanish red varietals, Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Monastrell, our current favorite is Tempranillo. We usually keep a Rioja or Ribera del Duero on hand.
The nose is light and slightly nutty. On first sip, we taste a little plum and fig. The wine opens up as we continue drinking and munch on some Humboldt Fog cheese. Cherry and vanilla flavors bring the second glass to life. Overall, the Lan Rioja offers a subtle encounter. About $16.
